Lexi Underwood is the new girl in town on the second installment of Freeform’s hit showCruel Summer.
The teen anthology is back with a new mystery and fresh characters.
I was able to bring one of my hairstylists, Marva Stokes, to set.
We came up with the concept of using wigs, Underwood tellsGlamour.
She made all of them and worked with the set’s main hairstylist to create the looks.
I loved the fact that the producers and the showrunner let me have input during the process.
I was so pleased when it all came together….
The summer look is very summer.
The winter looks are a little bit more polished and mature looking.

Wearing wigs was a big change from Underwood’s usual go-to styles for filming.
She’s appeared in a variety of popular shows, includingLittle Fires Everywherealongside Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon.
She also portrayed Malia Obama inThe First Ladywith Viola Davis.
This was my first time doing wigs and it was great.
Honestly, my hair grew so much.
We did a deep treatment with Olaplex on Saturdays and my hair loved it.
The DC native grew up embracing her natural curls: My mom always taught me to love my hair.
I do have a lot of hair and my hair is pretty thick.
Sometimes I do have a love-hate relationship when it comes to wash days because it definitely takes thefullday.
I love protective styles for that reason because they let my hair grow.
However, Underwood admits that she’s actually shy in real lifeunlike her character.
“I feel like I honestly learned something from her.
Playing her made me a little bit more confident and outspoken in my everyday life.
It was really fun.
I had never played a role like her before.
It was fun to play like that confident It-girl bang out of vibe.

I first section my hair into four parts.
I love a good aloe vera treatment, so I mix aloe and castor oil together.
The aloe treatment sits in my hair for about three to five hours.

After that, I rinse it out and move on to the conditioner.

I also use Olaplex’s conditioner.
I section my hair again because it’s easier to keep my hair detangled that way.
I really focus on each part of my hair.
Next, I’ll rinse it out.
The shampoo and conditioning process usually takes about an hour to complete.

I detangle my hair again and then use the Olaplex leave-in conditioner.
I also use the Mielle Organics Avocado Hair Milk, which I really love.
I mix those two together and put them in my hair.
Then I sit under a little dryer I have at home.
Sometimes I’ll study for a self-tape.

I go to sleep and in the morning I take the double-strand twist out and shake my hair.
If there’s any shrinkage, I take a blow-dryer and go through it.
Then I use some more hair milk.
I put a small amount on my edges and then that’s it.
My hair is fresh and curly.
My favorite go-to style when my hair is in its natural state is a good updo.
I love a good pineapple.
I usually throw it up in that and then go on about my day.
