Well, its pretty simple: Shes been doing whatever she damn well pleases.
As Obama explained, she has spent the past few decades serving others.
She raised her twodaughtersinto successful adults and supported her husband as he took on the presidency.

She stood by his side through two grueling campaigns, she smiled and waved.
She wasnt just serving her familyshe was serving an entire nation.
Now, her girls are grown and her husband is no longer president.
I cant blame my decisions and indecisions on anyone other than me, she told Bush.
But I didnt give myself that freedom.
No, clearly there was trouble in paradise.
Those Michelle Obama divorce rumors must be true.
After all, what other reason could a wife have for not standing and smiling at her husbands side?
As women, I think, we struggle with disappointing people, she said.
She continued: This couldnt be a grown woman just making a set of decisions herself, right?
But thats what society does to us…. We start actually going,What am I?
What am I doing?
Its fulfilling and lovely, but also can be exhausting.
But when her husbands career went stratospheric, Obama immediately took on the role of supporting him.
Only once our duties are done can we breathe.
Thats a lovely sentiment, and Obamas declaration of independence from expectation is undoubtedly a powerful one.
But I think we can do better.
