The family ruled over Mecklenburg-Strelitz, a small north-German duchy situated in what was then the Holy Roman Empire.
Her wedding to King George III took place just six hours after her arrival in the country.
George is even said to have instructed his teenage bride to not to meddle in matters of state.

Yet things were not to be so simple.
Georges reign was fraught with military conflicts, some more successful than others.
As George grew older, a different kind of turbulence began to blight his reign.

Despite speaking no English when she first arrived in England, Charlotte learned fast.
She was also a keen botanist and a champion of a number of garden projects at Kew.
Much like her descendant Queen Elizabeth II and her beloved corgis, Charlotte had a number of Pomeranians.

The two ultimately reconciled, however, on Charlottes initiation.
She was buried at St. Georges Chapel, Windsor Castle.
He himself died a little over a year later.
