And how closely does it follow the book?
So I just gave them each a piece.
“We wanted to show the messiness of a friendship, the messiness of life, like when you say the wrong thing or you do the wrong thing, or you don’t know how to handle a situation or you don’t have the words, so you cry or laugh instead,” Sie says. “The sloppiness of it feels important for people to embrace too.”
By the end of the night, I had talked to every man there.
Not only did Shulman rise to the challenge, but she decided to write about it as well.
That experiment landed her a book deal in 2015 with Abrams Books.
Shahidi (as Jane) and A’zion (as Corinne) didn’t want to be overly made-up or look too glamorous for the film, Sie says. “I think they were both a little bit scared of the vulnerability that [the storyline] was going to require, and they just really held each other’s hands through it as actors, not just on camera, but off camera. It was really lovely.”
And after living in LA for several years as a single lady, Audrey Shulman turned to baking.
The sloppiness of it feels important for people to embrace too.

“The idea of a cake is so comforting; it’s sort of a love language for so many people,” Sie says. “But the process of baking requires so much attention and meticulousness; it’s science-y. It’s not just about having fun or being creative. It is really important that you understand the science and [structure] to making a beautiful cake. That also goes with Jane’s personality in a way.”
Shahidi plays a version of author Shulman, while Azion is inspired by Chrissy.
Bette Midler (Beaches, Hocus Pocus, Big Business) plays Corinnes boss.
Ron Livingston (Office Space, Sex and the City) plays Corinnes father.
It was really lovely.

The movie filmed all over Los Angeles to make it feel more authentic.
