And we feel a deep responsibility to keep it fresh for our audience.

Sera Gamble:Hes that leading man kind of age.

Think of him as, like, on the mature side of 30 at this point.

So we kept it a little vague on purpose.

Someone who would have been dead at midseason.

What were you hoping to bring to the conversation that hasnt been portrayed before?

The idea of the Eat-the-Rich Killer is a progression of what weve been exploring for the whole series.

Joe has a lot of suspicion of the rich, and hes frequently correct in his assessment.

Does he think the world is a better place with Simon (Aiden Cheng) in it?

Not necessarily, right?

So it all kind of evolved from there.

And we normal people might not even know whats going on.

And now theyre tweeting.

So theyre inviting us to have an opinion.

Rian Johnson was very clearly poking fun at Elon Musk withGlass Onion.

Were any of the characters from this season based on real figures?

Theyre more based on the archetypes that you know so well.

For example, Lady Phoebewhen we were talking about her, we were also making American references.

She has like a little dash of Paris Hilton in her.

Our first glance at these characters is the kind of glance that you would get in a tabloid.

Joe sees them from far away and judges them and recognizes the archetype.

Shes clueless, but shes trying really hard.

Adam, who is played by Lukas Gage, also has many layers.

Gage is having a huge moment right now withEuphoriaandThe White Lotusand hisGossip Girlcameo.

Did you know of him before casting him?

He auditioned for this role.

And its so easy to understand why.

Look at Lukas Gage.

So it was just an obvious, Oh, my God, thats Adam.

I find myself defaulting to really empathizing with Lukas.

I found myself making excuses for him no matter what he was doing.

I get excited by him the same way I got excited when casting Penn Badgley.

When Im in a room with Penn, no part of me thinks he could ever do anything violent.

And I am not convinced that, short of saving a childs life, he ever could.

But thats why he’s so interesting to watch doing all of those violent things.

And I think Lukas is watchable for some of the same reasons.

This time, hes really killing out of necessity, and not obsession.

We talked a lot about whatMariennetriggered in him.

His mind is pretty good at justifying everything hes doing.

Its really easy for Joe to blame a woman.

But hes going to try.

Were only halfway through the season and we already know the identity of the Eat-the-Rich Killer.

In a very dark way, weve given him a different kind of view this season.
